Learning of her 4 week pre-mature birth just a short couple of months ago, I finally met little Addie early last Friday morning and what a sweet baby she was! Happy and compliant with the variety of clothes her mommy changed her in and out of, she was a model client. I love her bright blue eyes that seem to change color with her surroundings as well as the solemn expression she kept which made the smiles and pouty lips all the more rewarding. I definitely look forward to working with Addison again in the future - and that includes her great mommy and daddy too!

I love being around this great family and I love the fact that each photograph we captured on the gorgeous beaches of La Jolla and Coronado, California showcase the amazing personalities of each member. Taylor is my 1st senior to shoot here in the Austin area and I was thrilled to do so! She is just beautiful. With the all-American, California girl look- including blonde hair, bright blue eyes and long, lanky limbs - this chick could definitely have a career in modeling. What a fun afternoon we had driving around Austin to guarantee a wide variety of shots for her to choose from. (We even got her big brother Aubrey in on a few!) Thanks to her mom Susan for entrusting me, (the new kid in town) to accomplish such a big task in capturing her baby girl's last days as a high school student and congratulations to Taylor finishing strong!

This family is precious. 3yr old Anevey and 1.5 year old Ambree are an incredible mix of both sweet and sassy and, in just a few short months, they'll be joined by sister #3! I read this article today by a mentor of mine, Mark Eric ( www.markeric.com ) and thought I would share it here for all. I don't believe that this really only applies to wedding photography but to anyone looking to hire an artistically styled photographer. Enjoy!

People always ask me if I’ve ever had a “bridezilla”. The honest truth is that most of our brides have been really great! We love our clients, and based on feedback- they love us! Occasionally, we will meet a Mother, Sister, or Bridesmaid that doesn’t quite understand artistic wedding photography, so they get a little confused when we gently tell them that we don’t shoot off of magazine checklists. But in the end, they all love the images, which is why the couple hired us to begin with. Part of the reason that we do have amazing clients is because the interview process is two ways. When a couple contacts us about shooting their wedding, we are just as interested in finding out about them. Of course, we don’t bring them into a windowless room with a swinging light bulb for a full blown interrogation, but we do try to get a feel for their personalities. We want to make sure they are hiring a photographer that is a good fit for them. At the same time, we are also trying to make sure that we don’t book a job just because the date is open, we want clients who love our style of photography, and who are comfortable putting their wedding day memories in our hands (which means the magazine checklist doesn’t apply).

We have turned down clients in the past, based on a variety of reasons. Like I said earlier, we want to make sure they find a photographer who is a good fit for them. If that means that we don’t book the job, that’s ok! In the end, they must be comfortable with the decision they make, and they should hire a photographer that will best capture the vision for their wedding day. For brides and grooms searching for a photographer, here are 5 things that would cause us to recommend another photographer for your wedding day.

1. Availability. This is an easy one. If we are booked, we will recommend photographers that we trust. We actually share calendars with several photographers for this reason- when we are booked, we are happy to recommend trusted photographers who we know are available. The big thing to keep in mind is that good photographers book up fast. One of our good friends (who is an amazing photographer) is already booked entirely for 2012. We are booked for several dates in 2012, but we still have some availability. Why am I telling you this? Because when you find a photographer that you like, and they are open for your date, don’t drag out the booking process. Chances are that they are receiving several other inquiries for your date, and they will book soon. One of the worst feelings is for us to develop a great relationship with a bride, but have to tell her that someone else booked her date before she could make a decision to pay the retainer. When you find a photographer you trust and like, don’t delay the booking process, you’re date will get snagged by someone else. Remember, wedding photographers only have 52 weekends a year to earn a living, those dates go very fast.

2. Personality. Again, this one is pretty easy to recognize, but we do turn down jobs if we feel like the personalities just aren’t a good match. For example, we had scheduled a meeting with some potential clients recently. When I called to finalize the details, the groom was very short with me. As he passed the phone over to his fiance, I could clearly hear him raising his voice towards her. I brushed it off as a stressful day, then waited for her to come to the phone. When she came to the phone, she sounded very annoyed and short. I knew that they were probably having a bad day, but based on this brief conversation- I realized that they just weren’t clients that we would want to enter into a working relationship with. We want clients who love each other, and are excited about the wedding process. The way you talk to the photographer may make the decision process easy for him or her. Remember, dates book up fast- and most photographers realize that if a client isn’t a good fit, the date can likely be filled by a better fit.

3. Time invested in the interview process. We’ve chatted with some clients who we absolutely loved. Eventually, we realized that we weren’t a good fit simply because we couldn’t afford to invest any more time to their questions and phone conversations. We have literally spent seven hours (split up) with some clients answering questions, giving consultations, and getting to know different members of the family. There comes a point when the amount of time committed simply doesn’t make business sense for the photographer. If we have to spend more time in the interview process than we will spend on the wedding day, then obvioiusly the client still isn’t comfortable with us for one reason or another- and it’s simply time to move on so that we can devote our time to our actual paying clients.

4. Budget. Photographers should be upfront with all of their pricing and package information. We understand that we may not fit into everyone’s budget, and that’s ok. Most of the time, we can help you find a photographer that will fit into the budget if we are asked. However, some clients seem to believe that photographers are open to a negotiation process. I’ve never really understood this one. Of course, we may be able to customize a package to fit your needs, but asking us to reduce our pricing because of budget issues is more of an insult than people realize. People don’t go to the cashier at Macy’s and offer $100 for a jacket listed at $250. Maybe it’s the fact that photographers are self employed. Maybe it’s because people don’t understand that photographers charge what they do for a reason (equipment, insurance, taxes, family income, employee wages). Whatever the reason, when a potential client asks us to reduce our pricing because of budget issues, we simply send them a list of other photographers, then move on.

5. Shopping Photographers. Today, we received an email from a potential bride that was addressed to several other photographers besides us. It simply asked for pricing on wedding day coverage and a DVD. This told me that she was simply shopping photographers based on price. Honestly, if you are shopping photographers based on price- we really shouldn’t be on the list. There are plenty of photographers who are cheaper than us, and we know this. There is no reason for us to get caught up in a bidding war (see above). We want clients that want to hire us for our talent, experience, and personality. This is the main reason that we have never participated in a bridal show, because we realize that by nature, most bridal shows are set up for brides who are shopping based on price. Fortunately for us, we receive our business from word of mouth, which means our clients love us!

If you are serious about hiring a particular photographer (whether it’s us or someone else), I hope these tips will help you see things from a photographers perspective. Perhaps they will help you avoid some of the red flag issues that may be a turn off for the photographer you love. More than anything, I hope they help everyone realize that wedding photography should be based on great personality matches. The wedding photographer will be documenting the biggest day of your lives! Having someone with a personality that you can trust and get along with is critical to producing great images that you will love.

Meet David and Wendy. On their photo-shoot I walked them around some of the more urban areas of the city and before it was over I had a fence "tagged" in graffiti with their initials, had them leaping into the air repeatedly and climbing into some pretty precarious bushes/buildings. What I did not know at the time, is that they are expecting their first child! I love this couple!! This family was wonderful to work with, and despite their uncertainty about the location, they worked each frame as absolute troopers and were dismissed with zero snake-bites or poison ivy (much to their relief (and mine))! Wyndsor Garner Wilkinson

One of the newer additions to this old earth, Wyndsor was welcomed by Cassidy and Brad on October 14th. Weighing in at 8lbs and 2oz and 21inches long, this baby boy is already a lady-killer with his big baby blues and sweet disposition which is much like his mommy & dad's. Taken just a week after his birth, we managed to get all 4 generations of Wilkinson men into a couple of shots as well as try a few new ideas out that had his grandparents scared half to death. (See his little nest shot - but no worries, mom was right beneath him!) It was great to work with such open-minded parents when it came to the creativity of this shoot and I am so honored to have been a part of this little guy's introduction to the world from the beginning. Needless to say, I very much look forward to having "Wyn-Man" as a client of mine for a long, long time to come.

Kristen is a successful photographer herself with a growing little business that does quite well. So you might imagine the sense of pressure one has when photographing a colleague but as she is so well at doing, I was set right at ease with herself, her husband Steven and her two munchkins (Brennan & Ashlynn) as we strolled a few of the streets in downtown Columbia taking shots at every available opportunity until the children had had enough. I think they called it perfectly though as there was no need to shoot further... What we managed to create looks just about as precious as you can get.

You've never seen anything like these four ducklings. Treyson, Chandler, Lyndon and Brylar are the best behaved, full blooded "all boy" little men you've ever witnessed. Each of them has their own individual style that creates a unique personality to himself but together- they are the most adorable unit! I wish time would allow me to share each and every photo I captured on this shoot but as it prohibits me from doing so, these will have to suffice. The more time I spend with this family the more I grow to enjoy their company. T.J., GiGi, Blythe, Blake and Bryson are so tight-knit and sweet and lots of fun to be around. I love their nick-names for each other and how they all rib one another in good fun. Being with the Dunaways makes you feel like a true part of their family and I like to think that as their friend and family photographer, I in some small way, am just that.

It is hard for me to look at these photos and not see the little boy that I met some 5+ years ago. Yet, here he stands, nearly taller than me - definitely not so little anymore. Adam has become my "adopted" nephew of sorts and I have had the most fun watching him turn into this amazing person who is so confident and sweet and charming and such a cutie! Thanks to his mom Julee for letting him take his school lunch break off-campus so we could all spend some time together and snag a few shots for her to add to her kiddos wall of fame. Charleigh & Chandler Smith are individually pretty neat kiddos. (I know they'll love me calling them that...) But together they make a hilarious duo. I always end up laughing when they're together. The way they play off of each other as only siblings can do keeps you smiling even when you're attempting for the 400th time to instruct a shot. I loved that their beautiful and so sweet mom Tara was able to join us for this photo-op, and that we have caught on camera a few smiles that will now be frozen in time forever.

Looking far more like 18 than her 15+ years, Kayla is a stunning girl with long brown hair many would kill for and eyes to match. I love this girl's independent spirit. While she is very much a "cowgirl/tomboy" quick to admit she'd love a pick-up truck and loves her sports- this brunette also has a softer looking feminine side and has learned to rock herself out in heels, the color pink and the occasional animal print. What a great combination to cause the boys to run into line!

You see, the following featured family are some of my dearest friends in this world and nearly didn't happen. 5 minutes into my shoot my camera began acting up causing a 20minute delay in the photo-op which was not a great moment for me. However, we got it together and grabbed some amazing portraits of the fabulous four. I am especially fond of the black and white as it has an old world/magazine editorial feel to it. (As little Jack looks over at his big sister with his hand in his pocket, you can't help but smile!) So thankful for the patience of you good people reading this. Hope it's been worth the wait!

The Farmer Family

There are times when, as a photographer, things are less than stellar for the preparation of your shoot. No matter how hard you plan on the light, or how early you arrive, or how much thought you put into your creation, you still have a nagging feeling about whether or not you'll be able to pull it off and then - wah-la! The images that come back to you as you begin the editing process cause your eyes to well up and the sounds of the shoot echo through your head and cause you to smile and enjoy the tedious process of culling photos and touching up this or that. THIS, was one of those very times. Clayton, Tonya, Wallace and Gracelyn provided such an enormous amount of love in each and every one of their photos that as I stared at them I visually imagined myself jumping into their lives and being a part of this crew. What an amazing time we had together on the night of their shoot as I explored their many acre property for Twighlight-esque shots with their Crewcut model looking children or went MadMen style with the sophisticated couple or finally, as we transformed the master bedroom into a white down comforter/pillow-fight haven. I love these moments I captured with the Farmer family - I hope you will too.

This sweet little family was a pleasure to shoot and not only because of their great look, but because of how sweet they were through the process. It's clear that they truly love one another. Patrick and Blake have been longtime sweethearts and their love has brought about two of the most unique children. If I never believed in a typical "Irish" look, I'd be sure to convert quickly with just one glance at this group. Tiny but spry, twinkly eyes and that unmistakable red hair made for the most fun in shot after shot. Big brother Carter is full of mischief and charm but definitely a loving protector of his baby sister Camilla. I have a feeling she's got just as much of his impish ways in her as well but may get away with a little more because, who can resist that darling face? All in all, it was a great morning and our hour together flew fast by but not without a few sincerely fantastic photos- at least I think so, but don't take my word for it. Sit back and relish these for yourself.

Wallace Farmer turns 7!

Wallace and I sat in my car waiting on the rain to pass so we could get started on his 7yr. photo-op. While I let him have the iPhone so he could "beat my scores" at a variety of games, he chatted me up on everything from his baby sister to school, from his latest fishing adventures to how much he would miss me when I left Columbia. Needless to say, the latter left me with quite a lump in my throat. Wallace Farmer is a sweet, semi-shy, impish little man with a million questions always running about his brain. Working with him is always fun as he is forever offering me a bevy of new faces and poses to work with whether it be Superman, Spiderman or just his own serious or silly moves. This is a truly great kid!

Brookley Howell: The Early Graduate

I think this may have been the biggest "headstart" on Senior portraits I've ever had but what a way to kick off the graduating class of 2011. With an incredibly sculpted pair of cheekbones (I would die to have!) amber colored eyes and chestnut curls, Brookley worked herself frame for frame and did a smashing job! I especially loved the fact that she rocked her pink birdcage hair-piece inside of an enormous water fountain - it is the clients up for anything that have the most fun and make the most amazing pictures. Jeff and Latalia Posey are two of the sweetest and most Christian people you'll ever meet as was proved positive to be on the day of their photo shoot. Despite of the on again - off again rain that fell, this lovely couple and their 4boys Tyler, Jeremy, Josh & Christian braved the drops and made what could've been a miserable afternoon into a fun one. No father loves his boys more than Jeff, who chased down sand-crabs and tossed his boys up in "airplane" rides and with the kindness of a loving mother's heart, Latalia indulged them the tide-pool puddles and wet blue-jeans as she laughed it off saying, "boys will be boys". One of the few beach-ops that I've participated in, I enjoyed the time immensely and can't wait for my next one. But who can blame me when you see how gorgeous (even amidst sub-par weather), these portraits turned out to be...

Emma Gwin

Emma was my 1st pet photo-op. I was a little surprised when her "mom" Stacy called and asked me to do a shoot with her 3lb malti-poo but none-the-less, I happily accepted. I am always up for a challenge and believe that working with babies and small children and brides and over-anxious mommies has made me a pretty patient photographer so I expected this session to go so easily. How much "work" could a tiny little pooch be? Did she ever prove me wrong! I got more excercise in running after this little ball of fluff than I ever have on any op but it was so much fun. Outfitted with more collars than you've ever seen a puppy have and with 2buckets full of toys and blankets, Stacy and I worked hard with little Emma to attain some priceless photos. I am thankful for clients who trust their most precious treasures with me and this was no less than just that. Emma isn't only a "pet", she is a therapy-dog used to encourage elderly patients to interact outside of themselves both prolonging and improving their life span. Pretty big job for such a small package but with her sweet personality, I've no doubt she earns her place in Stacy's life as "top-dog" and especially deserved her r&r after a drive all the way from Alabama where we then exhausted her with "collar" changes, setting her up in different backdrops (a Magnolia tree included) and ran her hard through tall grass to get that smiley (tongue out) look. But I believe the results were totally worth it and I think it's kind of cool to now add "pet photographer" to my repertoire.

Cowgirl In Training: Analese

Analese was born a California girl but life has now landed her in Spring Branch, TX where she's adapting quite well to becoming a southern belle through and through. Cowgirl boots, heat, humidity and the whole southern way of life seems to wear well on her. When we last parted ways as her mom moved away from a short stint in my small hometown, Analese was a little baby princess with close cropped chocolate curls and dark eyes. Today, she still sports the dark and somber peepers and the hair's a good bit longer but she's as much royalty as she ever was - and who would blame her? The youngest of 5 (she's got 4 OLDER brothers), I was happy to treat this sweetheart with her very own photo-op with mom and dad along for the ride. Shot around the Guadalupe river at a very late time of day, the lighting worked beautifully and Analese rocked the lens. Just see for yourself...

Not only has little Ms. Beasley grown on up, but she recently became a big sister to little August Henry (love his name!). April 17th dawned with lots of sunshine creating perfect weather for Lorelei's wedding to her groom Tim. Big puffy clouds decorated the sky and provided an occasional break from the heat as they blew by with the breeze. The small ceremony and reception took place on Lake Caroline in Madison, MS and set a perfect backdrop wherein to witness the union of this gorgeous pair. Acoustic music and azealas in full bloom greeted the wedding party and guests as they arrived and the beautiful sounds and sweet smells ushered the bride and groom out to their red Jag to scoot them away to their honeymoon to the breath-taking coastline of the country of Mexico. There is no doubt that these two have a long and wonderful future laid out before them and I wish them all the best in their long life to come.

Begged by this priss-pot for the past 6months or more to take her photos, it seemed as if I were gonna miss my opportunity to do just that until Madelyn got permission from her mother to spend a morning with me in leiu of school so that I could grab an hour to capture her photos. Beginning the op in her Easter dress and long curls, this 10year old primped and posed for the camera in the spirit of a true super-model and then let her inner girly side out with a great dress and hair pom-poms for a more playful 2nd half of the shoot and I believe these actually turned out to be some of my favorite. So, I'm pleased to finally share with you a few frames from the morning. I love Ms. Madelyn and, in advance, wish her a very happy birthday coming this May!

Kimberly Leonard Bridals

I first met Kimberly via phone. She had been referenced to me by a friend of a friend and asked me to shoot her bridal shots and along with her wedding. With just a voice to go by, I wasn't expecting the long legged brunette that got out of the car to meet me at Rosedown Plantation just a couple of months ago. Standing around 6'1, Kimberly is a beautiful girl with blue-green eyes (really, one's more blue and the other's more green) and a knock-out smile. Saint Francisville, LA is a quaint, artsy town just about 30 minutes north of Baton Rouge. Filled with plantation homes and giant trees dripping with moss, arriving there almost makes you believe that you've stepped back in time. With spring in full bloom and a soft breeze, we couldn't have asked for a better day to photograph Kimberly and with mom out to help, it made for a very fun afternoon. Married just this past weekend, I can't wait to share some of the beautiful photographs from the big day. For now, here comes [photos of] the bride....

Ashlie McEntyre's Senior Shoot

Though I've got no doubt that these photos could in fact speak 1000 words, I do feel the need to share at least a little blurb about our late afternoon photo-op. Ashlie was up for anything and determined to me that she was going to have the most original Senior portraits and so she let her fashion sense fly. Now I can stand witness to the fact that Ash has the beauty and the personality to rock a paper-sack but even I was a little cautious when she whipped out some of her "hair-ware" for the shoot which included a beaded skull cap her mother bought on a trip to Italy... Um, yeah. She was stunning in that cap and in each of her photos as she posed and cheesed and rocked her fierce face, frame for frame. With an acceptance letter from William Carey, Ashlie says that she still wants to keep her options open and with her talent, I've got no doubt she'll have the future of her choice. Congrats to you Ashlie! The class of 2010 is lucky to count you a part of it.

Michelle Stogner : Class of 2010

Michelle and I had rescheduled her Senior shoot a half a dozen times and I was so relieved we were finally able to nail down a date. Michelle has the most beautiful honey colored eyes and a sweetheart of a face but don't let that fool you. In the time I've spent with Michelle I get the feeling there is a girl with grit under that pretty exterior and I know that with those traits, she'll do well in the profession she's choosing to pursue post-graduation which is Nursing. Dalena Gibson : Senior Shoot

Marla Ham Senior Shoot

So this Senior shoot was especially poignant to me as I look to this girl much like my own niece. I met this tiny powerhouse named Marla Ham when her family moved to Columbia right around the same time as we did- just a short 5 years ago. When she and I were first introduced, she had just begun the painful process of braces. Now, after 6 years and just in time for her Senior portraits, Marla got them removed to reveal a beautiful smile that I am so happy to be sharing with you all. The last of my Seniors to be shot inside the Crescent City, I had a great time with Marla as we not only captured some incredible photos of her and her sassy self but were able to hang out and enjoy each other's company- something that time and schedules rarely allow anymore. It was an awesome end to a wonderful weekend! Classy, sweet, smart, and stylish not to mention so, so pretty, Marla has got an incredible future ahead of her. With plans to go into some field of therapy, and an incredible support group of family and friends who've got her back 100%, she's sure to go far. I'm just happy to be a part of that circle. Holdon Armstrong Senior Portraits

With a name like Holdon, I couldn't wait to get a look at this kid and when we finally met, I wasn't disappointed. He is every bit as southern as his name. At first kind of shy and quiet, with a crooked smile, this boy is full of style. He's not been dealt too bad a hand in the talent department either so I'm told- though of his numerous musical abilities, guitar is his favorite instrument to play. Holdon and his mother Toya met me downtown in NOLA and we got down to the business of the photo-op. With a variety of looks to work with in Holdon's wardrobe, I was excited that we got to really explore the breadth of the city from the heart of the French Quarter all the way to Audubon. This Louisiana boy while ever-charming and polite still has some heartbreaker in him though as he let me in on his plan to "never marry". Just graduating high school I think that may be a good thought... for now.

Lorelei & Tim are Engaged!

This beautiful couple are getting married in just 10 days! Lorelei, a recent graduate of Ole Miss is now a pharmacist which fits her self proclaimed "science loving nerdy side" and Tim is headed to law school this fall. I've had the priviledge of knowing each of these two in separate mutual friendships but hadn't really spent much time with them as a couple until the day of our shoot. But, as I did, it was my discovery that Lorelei and Tim are perfect for each other. Complementing one another in personality and so great looking together, these two were up for anything as we braved her severe allergies amidst a field of tall grass and got him to smile on many occasions despite his affinity for a more "serious" face. I loved how snuggly and comfortable they were with one another and can't wait to shoot their upcoming nuptials. Stay tuned for those pictures in the weeks to come but in the meantime...

Congratulations to my latest Senior featured here on the BRP blogspot, Kelsey Carter. When Kelsey's mom Dawn asked if I would be up to photographing her daughter I immediately agreed and was thrilled when I found out that they were more than willing to be one of my New Orleans shoots. The Carter family are truly cool people and it was a fun morning we spent in The Crescent city. Kelsey got many cat-calls and whistles as she and her BFF, Ariel primped and posed for the shots and with her killer red boots and big baby blues it was no wonder why! Leah Adcock Senior Portraits

When I first met Leah I immediately thought of a porcelain doll. She is long limbed and slender with the most fair skin and a kind of serious look about her face which is framed by dark auburn colored hair. Accompanied by her parents and a friend (hi Lauren!) to help her with hair and wardrobe, the 5 of us drove the city streets of New Orleans stopping periodically to take advantage of the back-canvas featuring all the local flair. Leah tells me she plans to be a lawyer and she loves Sarah Palin (we even got a photo of her with Gov. Palin's book, Going Rogue) - something totally unique that I happened to love capturing. One thing is for certain and that is Leah definately has the look for law and politics. Polished, poised and pretty.

Christa is one of the most confident teenagers I've met in a long time. She is clear and very direct in her speech and if you were to talk to her over the phone, you would never guess her to be an up and coming high school graduate. I like her friendly personality and her laid back style which complemented the various stops we made to shoot her portraits. With mom and sister in tow, we navigated traffic on a busy afternoon in Jackson in the Fondren area- a great district with cool shops and colorful buildings gave Christa the perfect location to rock her shots. High atop a mountain in the city limits of Escondido, CA sits a beautiful house wherein lives a beautiful family. Karlene, the lady of said house rules as Queen with not one, two or even three men in her life to serve her hand and foot but five! Her husband Rob is a kind and quiet man and 17 year old son Nick reminds me of his dad. Next we've got Luke who is 15 and sort of seemed to be the peace-keeper of the group, followed by 13 yr old Jacob who was still the baby of the house until just a short time ago when Levi (now 2) was born. Levi now obviously rules this roost but is obviously adored by all of his big brothers. It was a pleasure to get to meet this sweet family and visit their gorgeous home where views of the Big Bear mountains snowy caps were caught around every treachrous turn we wound around to get to the Campbell compound. This family is tight-knit and I love that Rob and Karlene are still so in love. It was a pleasure to meet them all and be able to capture their family on an such an amazing afternoon. Paxton Price

It's pretty cool to me that the last time I met with MaryBeth Price, little Paxton was still tucked snuggly inside of her like a baby kangaroo in mommy's safe warm pouch. Now, at six months old here the new baby is. A complete and total butterball, he patiently endured the outfit changes that his mommy put him in and out of and grinned happily exposing the two cutest bottom teeth in his tiny mouth. With grandma along to help distract Paxton while MaryBeth primped the little man we managed a good variety of super sweet shots. What an adorable baby he is!

Lincoln Jack Turns 2!!

So there's this boy... and he's beautiful. Clear blue eyes, full pouty cherry red lips and the sweetest personality you've ever come across. But sorry girls, he's only two. With his big sister, Jane-Claire as my "assistant" for the shoot - she, Jack and I ran the roads right here in rural Mississippi for the little man's two year photo-op. Jack is an aspiring musician and we shot him with not only his drums but an acoustic guitar and tamborine too! The fedora only adds to his charm and I am so happy to finally get these posted. New Orleans Photog Shoot-Out

Wednesday I was blessed to be able to attend my first official "Photog-Shootout". Hosted in New Orleans by a bevy of internationally known photographers, the event featured different classes with intruction on posing, lighting and more. The day wrapped at Mother's restaurant with an open-mic forum for said instructors to answer questions from the 50 or so in attendance as well as discussions on their personal insight regarding everything from web-hosting to optimum software options. While I originally wrestled with attending the event, I am so glad I went! Not only did I learn a few key things to invest into my business but I met a lot of great new people, (including one of my "mentors", Mark Eric) and loved networking with others of like-minded passion in the field that I love. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day. The models were gorgeous and very brave as they rocked the lens despite recurring cold breezes. I am happy to be able to add them to my portfolio!

Gracelyn Is Three!

Themed "Paris in Pink", Gracelyn Farmer's 3rd birthday party was decorated in just that. Eiffel tower lanterns hung from the ceiling over each place setting, pink poodles adorned the balloons and the most beautiful cake took center stage of the affair - next to the birthday girl of course. Ratatouille played across the widescreen and to top the afternoon off, Gracie's mommy carried out the sweetest miniature schnauzer as a gift for the little princess. I always enjoy photographing these affairs for the Farmer family as they give such a great inside look at how much parents can care for one baby girl. It is astonishing to me how much little "G" (as I sometimes call her), has grown since the first time I shot her just a short 36months ago. Happy birthday Gracelyn Alexis! You are a precious and most gorgeous little girl!

The Sargent Family

This past month I was privileged to escort my husband on one of his consults to sunny southern California. Of course, I had to make known that I would gladly execute a few photo-shoots while on my visit and was so excited when Duana Sargent called me to ask me if her family could be on that list. The Sargents are a great unit of the most unique individuals bundled up together in one big happy family. Darin is the pastor of NorthPoint Church in Escondido as well as a renown motivational speaker and a truly funny guy. Duana is the sole proprietor of Duwop Designs, a company she created that crafts funky hairware for girls. Carson is all boy and quite stylish for his 13years. Ashton has the cliche but beautiful "California girl" looks with white-blonde hair and killer blue eyes. She is a drama queen and plays the sibling role of "big sister" quite well. And then there is baby Averie, an absolute one-of-a-kind. Red hair and a without a care, she never meets a stranger, is abundant with her hugs and has a very contagious laugh. Needless to say, I fell in love with this family and look forward to working with them in the future. Enjoy!!

Anavey McGovern

Anavey's photo-op was sort of "spur of the moment" when we learned we would be headed to Point Loma, CA for an afternoon with the McGovern family during our last trip to southern California. While the whole family was unable to participate in the shoot, I was more than happy to snap this baby girl by herself on the docks off the Point. Anavey is just 2 years old and full of personality and whose tiny little pigtails and twinkly eyes only add to her charm. She's got mommy Monique's smile and daddy David's color and is totally in love with her new baby sister Ambree. Next time, I intend to catch all of the McGovern's in frame but in the meantime - check this one out!

The Goodman's

Prior to Christmas, the couple were passing through Columbia and arranged for a photo-op with your's truly. While Kimberly embraced her inner model with a variety of smokin' poses, Jeffrey more-or-less hung back from each frame but somehow managed to grab the shots right alongside his bride. A Fresh Beginning

Billy and Kathy are an adorable couple who truly deserve all the happiness their future can hold. As you may remember from their engagement shoot story, some very difficult circumstances led these two together. Happily, just shy of a short 2months ago, they were joined in holy matrimony as man and wife bringing a very blended family together. Though the wedding was a small affair, the emotions running throughout the church on their special day were vast as family and friends surrounded this pair with love and well wishes. Following the beautiful service and reception I enjoyed snapping up a variety of shots as these two flirted with each other as well as any two teenagers might. In conclusion, here's a wedding rhyme I found that I feel fits these two: "If you wed in bleak November, only joys will come, remember." I pray them nothing but joy. Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Wesie!

Adrian Johnson Senior Portraits

Adrian Johnson's senior shoot was quite possibly the longest non-wedding shoot I ever done but it was a lot of fun. With a half dozen wardrobe changes and at least as many different locations, we nailed some incredible photos of this graduate-elect. Mom, big brother and boyfriend accompanied Adrian as she climbed an enormous bridge cross-tie (in heels no less), and braved the frigid temps in just a slip of a dress atop a motorcycle that her sweet boyfriend loaned as a prop for one of her series of shots. Adrian is an incredibly sweet girl with killer gorgeous eyes and really great style which she plans to use in her future plans in cosmotology. Good luck girl! You'll knock em' dead!

The Lees and Kinseys

Leslee Lee and I weren't all together sure that this photo-op would happen as typical MS weather threatened to shut down the shoot with rain. But fortunately, the rain stayed back. The cold however did not and Lesley, her husband Heath and their daughter Madalyn along with Lesley's brothers Ryan, Ross and his daughter Kylan braved the chilly air to work their family for the perfect shot as a special gift for mom this Christmas. While Lesley was definately the one in charge of this brood and kept everyone focused and going, Heath kept little Maddy calm (she was in no real mood for the cold OR for picture taking) and Kylan rocked the lens like a true champ as her dad and his twin brother often assisted me in trying to elicit smiles from the little tykes. This was a really fun family to photograph and I love how you can "feel the love" in each and every one of their shots.

AnnaKate and Cole

These cousins are only 9 weeks apart and though little Cole is actually the older of the two, it's true what they say about girls maturing faster because even at this young age, Anna Kate took on this photo shoot like a pro. She braved the frigid air, climbed up fences and into buggies at the Ag Center in Jackson where we did this shoot and gave me her most solemn of smiles for each frame while Cole on the other hand had to be rounded up at every turn. But oh wasn't it worth it when you see how breathtaking those beautiful baby blues are. I love to photograph small children for the express purpose of capturing that innocence in their eyes. No matter what the color, they all scream of new beginnings and curiosity that always seems to grab me as I view them through the lens. Powell Family Portraits

OK. So this shoot was different than the others because it was the first time I've ever shot in weather so cold as it was on this morning. Darrin, Marilyn, Darra, Darrin Wesley and Drew were total sports about it though and put their game faces on (albeit though that may have just been because they were frozen in place)! The Powell family are such sweet people and were so patient with me as I moved them up and down the streets of Columbia for their early morning photo-op. Occasionally, I have a "star" from each shoot that I do and most often I am surprised as it typically winds up being the last person I forsee stealing each frame but this one I pegged rigtht from the start. While 5yr old Darra with her sapphire blue eyes and 3yr old brother with his pouty red lips are just adorable, it was baby brother Drew whom I fell for the minute he bounded out of the family SUV. Full of different expressions and so lively - I constantly found my lens zeroing in on his infectious grin. And now, in spite of the challenge of the less than stellar weather, here are a few of my favs from the shoot.

Larry, Susan, Max, Grady & Sam

Larry and Susan Hill have been friends of mine and Mitch's for about seven years or so now. And sadly, it is our mis-fortune that we only get to see them a few times a year as time and distance have separated us more than great friends would ever wish. So, when Susan called me to ask me if I had an opening, I worked it out with my hubby where we could swing through their home city of Tupelo on our way back from Thanksgiving break to do this family's photo-shoot. (Their very first "professional" shoot as a family btw...) I met this great couple shortly after the birth of their first son Max, and was then honored to be present on both the arrival of their second boy Grady, followed by baby sister Sam. All three of the Hill kids have the most unique personalities and I thoroughly enjoyed tagging along with them to see what expression they would have me snap next. The result are as follows - photographs of an incredibly beautiful family that are guaranteed to be shared for a long time to come!

The Alford Family

It has amazed me how much time has flown by since I first met the Alford family just a little over 4 years ago. This couple were always so kind and quick to smile and they had this seemingly shy little girl whom you never saw much of. But oh how things change! Anna is now fourteen years old. Her dark hair matches mom's but those twinkly green eyes are directly from dad whom I learned is a real clown on this photo-shoot. But this clown is going to have to get serious when it comes to watching out for his little girl. Anna is gonna be a true heart-breaker. Boys, eat your hearts out!

Darren & Courtney Wedding Teasers

I've enjoyed the editing process on all of this wonderful couple's photographs from their engagement photos and the bridal portraits down to the last hand wave as their get-a-way car left the building. Courtney gave me full permission to be as creative as I like and so I am taking my liberty (and probably to her anxious, my time), on each and every frame. It was a beautiful but warm fall day in Houston, Texas for this sweet pair wedding and a bevy of both friends and family from in and out of state filled the white chairs to witness the occasion. Simple but elegant, relaxed but rich in style - this wedding had all the characteristics of the bride and groom who I've enjoyed getting to know throughout the whole process. The Dunaway's

The Dunaway house was the first location that came to mind when GiGi asked me about doing their family portraits this year. It is a beautiful and stately home with lovely landscaping amidst the changing fall trees. After helping the family decide who should wear what, I got Blake and Bryson to work on hauling out one of the media room chaise lounges for a settee on the front drive island so as to set the perfect backdrop for this family's photo-op. After a quick primping of her hair, sister Blythe soon joined us and a tad bit later, dad T.J. showed up too. I don't know of many parents who are so much in love with their children as T.J. and GiGi are with their three. Evidence of their affection is not only in the constant gifts I know their brood to receive, but more importantly in the support they consistently show along with public hugs and back-pats and how at any time you can find one of these kids with their head leaned up against mom or dad. They're great parents, great examples and in general just truly great people.

Channing Stringer's Senior Portrait

This photo-op took me out to the small town of Foxworth, MS where I was asked to shoot the Senior portraits of Channing Stringer. An all-state champion in track and field, Channing is not only a great athlete but a truly good guy. I learned all this as I got to enjoy a couple of hours while "shooting" him and his amazing smile (thanks to the recent removal of braces). Patty, Channing's mother, bragged on her only child and his level-headedness and good nature. I loved the personal touches of this shoot including Channing's class and championship rings, his brand new cherry red 4-wheeler and his pal, Dusty -the family spaniel. I was also thankful for the time "out-of-town" among the beautiful fall landscape and peaceful property and the company only made it better.

Sophia's Family...

I chose this blog title because of the little redhead who started it all. It has been my distinct pleasure to have photographed little Sophia since before she was able to walk or talk. Now she does both and I was so glad to again be called by her mom Amanda to take the entire tribe's Christmas photos this year. (Grandpa, Grandma, Auntie and Cousins included...) What a truly beautiful family this is. From the moment you pull up to their amazing house you can feel the warmth of true comraderie among this group. I loved observing their interaction as they all teased each other and comfortably showed affection but the one who garnered more attention than all was the unique baby of the group with the midnight eyes, Sophia. On this Thanksgiving day as I attempt to catch up on my homework I've brought with me, I am reminded by these photos of my own family and how blessed I am to have them around me. Be thankful for those that love you today and tell them so. You never know what tomorrow will bring or how much they'll appreciate you putting a voice to your feelings for them.

Shadoe Bourn

Shadoe is a character like none you're guaranteed to meet very often in life. I told her mother Zazzy on this particular photo-op that watching Shadoe and how she interacts with things is much like watching one of those spunky and mischievous little girls in movies like Harriett the Spy, Madeline, or Matilda. She is a brilliant little girl with a face identical to her mom's (something that I really noticed on this shoot)! Shadoe rocked her pink fedora while informing me that fuschia is now her signature color, donned a myriad of hats for this session and even brough along her favorite feline, Flicka to be photographed as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this late afternoon hour with these two Bourn women and love the resulting photos as well!

Jessica, Emma & Rusty Cox

Emma is my second cousin and this photo-op was the very first time I was ever able to see her making this shoot a very special occasion. You see, her mother Jessica met Rusty a couple of years ago and after a mind-whirling-faster-than-the-speed-of-light- "courtship" they were married in his homestate of Michigan and have been living there ever since. This of course makes it more than a little difficult to see one another but the stars lined up perfectly on my last trip to TX and I was graced with the opportunity to spend a little bit of time with them. Jessica is an incredible wife and mother (with a second one already on the way!!) and blessed her daughter with beautiful eyes. Emma's smile however, is all her dad's from the way her nose and eyes crinkle up to the way the bow in her top lip bends when she's giving the camera her full-on cheese. After this short shoot was finished, Jessica and I rode through our little hometown of Huffman and re-lived the memories of our childhood from the old high schools and fishing spots to the church-house and various homes we lived in. It was a great afternoon that now with the help of these photos, I'll never forget. I do so love my family.

It is often joked that though Danny and Rachel didn't have a boy and a girl, they definately got one of each of their very own look-alikes in their two girls Noelle and Naomi. One shares her mother's dark hair and more serious features while the other has her daddy's smile and his mannerisms down pat. This is a beautiful family for far more many reasons than just their gorgeous looks, in that they do more than just pay lip-service to their Christian lifestyle but live it on a daily basis. This is the first family of LifePointe Church in San Antonio which was started by the Rivers family just a little over a year and half ago and already the magnitude of what they are trying to accomplish is being felt within their community as God continually blesses their efforts. I am so glad we were able to nail this photo-op down as it allowed me not only the opportunity to spend time with some dear friends of mine but to check out the San Jose Mission as well. The potential shots within the walls of this gorgeous old church community are limitless but here are a just a few of what we snagged on our afternoon out.

Mike and Sandy took on this shoot with all the amore of two teenagers in love and it was my observation that they are a perfect match. I've had the pleasure of "shooting" their kids and grandbaby before and was so happy to be able to add them to their family's portfolio with BrandyRose Photography. A gorgeous rose garden located inside of San Antonio was the perfect set-up for this couple's session and we three had a great time checking out what the local nursery had to offer along with the numerous back-drops we had to choose from. Our adventure wrapped in a dried out river bottom where Mike quickly pointed out the remains of a good size snake-skin that had been recently shed. To say the least, we were a tad more careful for the remaining portion of the pictures. Ah, the joys of shooting in the "wild". =) Enjoy!

Courtney's Bridals!

I am beyond excited to finally be able to share with you just a few of the bridal portraits of a newly wedded Courtney Benninghoff Rose. (Love her new last name btw!=) We rocked Hermann Park and downtown Houston, TX for this special occasion. Courtney's dress was a vintage eBay steal and this southern belle upped the ante with the addition of some beautiful green cowboy boots when she wasn't stomping her style with just her bare feet. Despite some rocky footing amidst a public fountain, crazy traffic making their way to an Astro's game and threatening weather, we stayed the course for a very full photo-op and managed to come away with some of my most favorite bridal portraits to date! Chase Cooksey's Senior Photo Shoot

I've had the pleasure of knowing Chase for around 5 years or so and it's never ceased to amaze me how this small town MS boy can stay so abreast of the trendiest new fashions and manage to pull them all off! Chase is a beautiful trust-fund baby who blows his family's wealth on fast cars and partying - JUST kidding - though I did tell him that's what he looked like in most of the shots we captured this weekend and apparently others agreed as we had to stop mid-shoot on several occasions while girls asked for a photo with him or would interrupt us to whistle and cat call. I believe he really is too pretty for his own good but very grateful he called me to do his Senior portraits as he takes fabulous photos of himself all the time without the help of many others. (See his Facebook sometime =) Chase is from Meridian but fit right in with the locals down in the big city of New Orleans and didn't even sweat when the band ACDC walked by inside a local hotel we caught some pictures in and nodded our way. (VERY cool moment btw!!) While he is a bit vain (inside joke), he is a true sweetheart and has big plans for his future including a desire to work inside of a graphic arts firm. In the meantime, Chase wants to wrap up his Senior year while juggling his acting career in live theatre - he just landed a role in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I know he'll do great! So here's another Senior who's name you'll surely see in lights someday - I'm just glad that I'll be able to say, "I knew him when..."

Blythe's Senior Shoot

The first Senior this school year to participate in my exclusive NOLA Senior Photo Shoot is Blythe Dunaway and it's almost befitting as she is ahead of the game in so many areas. A student at Columbia Academy, Blythe is involved in her local chapter of student government, student body president, in the top of her graduating class, treasurer of her local sorority chapter the Dusty's, a member of Crown Club and very active in leadership of her local youth ministry. Though we thought this photo-op may not happen due to scheduling conflicts, weather and then technical difficulties, it could not have come together any better. We walked a variety of areas around New Orleans with "taxi-rides" from mom GiGi when time got out of hand and wrapped Blythe's shoot in the same spot that Sly Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li and Mickey Rourke are filming The Expendables - set to be released this coming spring! Pretty cool, huh? You definately won't get back stories like this on just any ole' photo-op so, if you're a Senior be sure and sign up for my spring NOLA photo-shoot. Yup, we're gonna do it again and who knows? Maybe you'll run into one of the actors themselves! Fall Photo-Op with the Farmer Family

This photography session was truly unique because it didn't take place here locally but took the term "on location" literally as we loaded up the SUV wherein I, the entire Farmer family and their nanny (hi Twyla =), squeezed together for a trek down to none other than New Orleans, Louisiana. I am so happy to finally share these gorgeous photos with you and feel obligated to say that these 5 below just barely scratch the surface for the beautiful portraits I was so honored to capture on this weekend out. Clayton and Tonya are so in love with one another and their cuter-than-cute children and thus, the good feelings just ooze from each and every shot. With the exception of wrangling those hypnotic eyes to focus on my lens, this shoot was effortless and honestly so much fun. Enjoy what you see and as always, leave me a line!

This family is so precious to me for so many reasons and it has been such a pleasure of mine to get to photograph them over the past 3 holiday seasons. Their pictures always inspire me and I love looking back until this point to see how much the babies have grown. Jane-Claire is a force to be reckoned with. Although she is small, she is spunky and still so, so sweet. Little brother Jack is her opposite in so many ways - all smiles all the time and so laid back but he does share those bright baby blues with big sister and dad that are one day gonna make some girl's heart melt in a major way. Charleigh & Chandler's Photo-Op (With Mom & Dad Too! =)

Charleigh and Chandler Smith are finally teenagers and to commemorate this occasion, their mother Tara decided to use her birthday gift certificate (a photo-shoot with yours truly) to freeze frame this special time in her newly teenaged children's lives. Of course, she and Parrish snuck in on a few photos as well and I was happy to have them. This family is non-stop fun. The beautiful Tara has a somewhat calming affect on her brood but with Parrish for a husband - always a kidder, Charleigh, the other sassy female in the house and Chandler whom I can only describe as a sneaky, mischevious little imp, constantly in the mix I think she finds it easier to just go along for the ride. This is a great family and I enjoyed taking every picture from the twinkle of Chandler's eyes when he smiled to twin sister(in case I forgot to mention they are indeed twins), Charleigh's prissiness over getting dirty for any pictures. What a sweet little family this is! I especially enjoyed the very cute and personable Ms. Ava Grace and her giant dimpled smiling cheeks. I feel obliged to say that being asked to take photos for this couple was a tremendous honor. They do nothing short of first class and so I feel as if I've really made an impression to have been commissioned for this year's annual family portrait of Mr. & Mrs. Tommy and Janette Wallace. Cornerstone's of our community, these two share a story that has endured numerous hardships and triumphs but what is really cool to me is that no matter what the future holds, their legacy will live on in the lives of their wonderful children and grandchildren and so on. Because Janette had asked me a while back to think of something "different" for this photo-op, I got my brain to work and came up with the idea of putting the two of them together atop a Harley Davidson bike decked out in black leather as if they were about to hit the road for some long trip away - she liked the idea and said they had a bike so we decided to go for it. I was expecting an old skinny black machine - not the 900lb purple monster that they pulled up for the shoot. This ride was awesome and brought out the "teenager" in these two. As the morning wore on, it was evident to me that Tommy and Janette still love each other as much as they ever have and this makes me happy. Too often you see a pair who have been married for quite a while but they obviously have no joy - they're just together because it's the thing to do. Not so for this special couple - they truly enjoy one another and I believe their Christian lifestyle is a major basis for that factor. I've known this family for some time but this was the first time I really got an "insider's" glance into their lives and as I said previously, they are truly classy Christians whom I hope in many ways to model someday.

So I've finally got a little time to sort through the countless number of photos from this amazing wedding and here are just a few of my favorite. Though the day brought a little rain, it didn't stop the guests from coming and on October 10, this sweet couple said "I do" in front of hundreds of friends and family. The flower girls kept the crowd in laughter as they donned their bonnets (baskets), and lighthearted and fun music by artists like Colbie Callait and Jason Mraz kept the mood lighthearted to balance the earthy but elegant decor. I'm thrilled to finally be able to put these up and share with all of you guys just a few of the gorgeous shots we caught with the former Ms. Hamilton. Her dress, by Demetrios Bridal line was one of the most beautiful I've ever seen with multiple kerchief layers that were so befitting of this simple but elegant bride. Because of Sheena's love for wide open fields and different locations, we caught more than our share of odd looks as we walked about various areas looking for the perfect place to showcase her and her gown - railroad tracks and abandoned houses included. An out-of-town photographer from the sunshine state even stopped to watch the shoot and happened to compliment how lovely the bride looked and just how unique the photos were. I couldn't agree more.

Wallace Farmer turns 6!

Right before I began this blog post, I text my friend Tonya (Wallace's mother), and told her what I am going to share with you. This boy is heartachingly, heartbreakingly beautiful and until we did this shoot, I had not realized how big he is growing up to be. When I first moved to Columbia over 4 years ago, Wallace was a 2year old little baby - now he's this long and lanky kid that asks questions that can completely stump you, who's baby blues are hard to look away from and who's fashion sense, thanks to his mom and dad :), can compete with the most hardcore stylists in Hollywood. He is so sweet - I've seen him be a total softie with his little sister Gracelyn but also 100% all boy! The shot of him here sitting against the wall completely showcases his "I'm over this" attitude, but nonetheless, he pulled through it and as always, the work paid off - photos worthy of any magazine or publication you can imagine, if I do say so myself. Pianist, Philip Fortenberry

Philip and I met at the wedding of his niece Didi Childress and I was very flattered by this stranger who praised my photography so abundantly. Moreso, I was honored when he asked if I would be interested in doing a photo-shoot with him for some upcoming press releases, news reviews and his newest project. Just from listening to him practice I knew that this was an incredible musician who could light up the ivories like few I've ever heard, and so I quickly agreed to the offer and, after the wedding went home to see what I could learn about this man with the glowing green eyes. Here is what I found. Philip is a native of Columbia, MS but now resides in Las Vegas, NV where he works as an associate director for Broadway's famous Jersey Boys! as well as a featured artist at the Liberace museum. His talent brought him to Sin City following a 25 year career in NYC where he played for former President Bush as well as for Lady Margaret Thatcher, Harry Connick Jr., Eartha Kitt and a bevy of Broadway productions including Cats, Ragtime, The Lion King and many more. He has also released a variety of CD's featuring music that he has written or has been inspired by. Philip wears his great acclaim very casually and his kind demeanor soon had me relaxed and laughing with him. We, and one of his colleague's, had a great time chasing the light about Columbia for this very humid and very hot photo-op. The man was a real trooper and I am very pleased with what we caught. Welcome Fall's first day & baby Ryan Neal

Born on August 20th at 7lbs10oz & 20", Ryan Neal Bullock was welcomed into the world as not only the first grandchild on either his paternal or maternal side, but as the first baby born into his mother's side of the family in thirteen years! Needless to say, this little man is gonna have an easy life if family has anything to say about it. The name Ryan came from daddy Chris's middle name and Neal was an homage to a family name that belonged to momma Tamara's own father and other family going three generations back. I was so excited to be invited into the home of this great family and be the first photographer to "officially" take portraits of this little man at just a young four weeks old. He still had his peeling, wrinkled skin and smelled all warm and sweet as most babies do and though he wasn't all together up for a pile of smiles, he did open those little eyes up quite frequently and allowed us a look at his deep baby blues. Though the weather is still more mid-summer than the first day of fall, this day will be one to be remembered for years to come as one of all things new. Congratulations to my friends Chris and Tamara and their wonderful families! You've got a true prince among you.

McMichael Twins - I'm Lovin' It!

Carter & Cara McMichael just turned 1 year old and though they can't quite walk yet, they can crawl as fast as any toddler can stroll. Mom Kelli and I, along with the baby's grandmother began our shoot very early. Fighting off mosquitos that would send indiginous jungle folk running we started snapping photos as quickly as possible in order to get out of the swamp like conditions. Little Cara was none to happy about being down in the misty dew but Carter liked the rocks and grass and quickly began working his magic on the camera with those big blue eyes. At our next stop, the babies swapped personalities as sister got her groove back in front of the lens while her brother wanted no part of it and began scooting away. Both twins adjusted quickly when we finally stripped them down to their diapers for "naked baby" shoot time. As you can see by the film below, they loved on one another and clapped and coo'ed; happy to have their skin cooled by the absence of clothes. This was my first photo-shoot with twins and it was definately an experience that I'm happy to have shared with two as sweet as these. Enjoy!

New Love..

An extended trip to Texas last week for a variety of photo-shoots as well as work on my sister's new place (congratulations Jacklyn on your first apartment!), introduced me to this sweet couple with a very unique story. Billy, from San Antonio recently became a single dad just about the same time Kathy, from Houston, was made one as well by the sudden loss of her husband. Through a mutual friend, (my mom, no less! ["hi mom!"]), the two met last year and began a shy friendship that has now blossomed into that four letter word that binds you to someone forever - LOVE. It was adorable to watch Kathy get ready for her future groom-to-be as he made his way over to pick her up for a few portraits with her son and new daughter-in-law, as well as Billy's two children. She even asked me if I thought it was silly that knowing he was on his way gave her butterflies in her stomach. I didn't think so at all. In fact, I thought it was just downright sweet! I look forward to photographing this pair's wedding come November in San Antonio - they are a great match and will be a major blessing to all they come in contact with. Congratulations K&B on finding what some lose and never find again - true love!

Forecast: Cloudy, With A Definate Wedding!

I begin this post with a thanks to Amber and Conrad. Due to their beautiful wedding destination and the unusual circumstances of their special day, I feel more cultured and capable than I have prior to any other wedding I've had the pleasure to photograph.

The wedding was in Natchez, MS at the Rosalee Mansion. I've never really explored this city, save an occasional stop for a bite to eat on my way in or out of Mississippi/Louisiana but this past weekend I discovered a great new get-a-way. Wonderful and unique boutiques line the small downtown along with dozens of antique shops- and the historical old houses leave one longing for a more simple time when life was a little more slow and alot more grand.

No expense appeared to be spared for Saturday's outdoor event. The grounds were immaculant and decorated in the bride's chosen colors of blue, brown and cream and as beautiful violin music began the wedding party proceeded down the aisle. The bride finally made her entrance on her daddy's arm and after a tearful and sweet hug to her momma the ceremony started and let me just say, you've never seen a groom look so sweetly at his bride as Conrad did to Amber.

In no time, what had been a beautiful bright and sunny afternoon began to turn dark as clouds started rolling in with thunder and an occasional lightning bolt lit up the twilight sky. Just short of the presentation of the newlyweds, giant raindrops began falling and it became each one for themselves. A plan was quickly put in action to move the reception to a nearby hall at a local hotel. The drive over made it apparent this was not just a late summer rainshower but in fact, a major thunderstorm.

Within minutes after arriving at the hotel, the power went out and stayed that way for well over the next hour. Guests stayed cheerful despite the heat, and I joked with the violinist as he began to play inside the dark foyer that he was much like the Titanic's own musicians whose music helped calm the masses in the middle of all the chaos. Friends and family started working with candles and flashlights and a semblence of a reception was made. Then, just as everyone had settled into the warm darkness the power shot back on! Photos were rushed together just as Amber fell very sick and had to be put to bed.

Needless to say, this was definately a learning experience and while I'm sure it felt disastrous at the time, I think the photographs will allow only the good memories of the evening as they are shared with generations of Gulliot's and Herrington's to come. Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Guillot and to you both, all the best- you surely deserve it!

Amber completely transformed from a laid back kind of gal to a full-on princess when she donned her wedding gown for her bridal portrait shoot. The energy she brought with her was contagious as I watched her personality burst out of those piercing eyes that you can't decide to be blue or green and those carefully coiffed blonde ringlets. Married just this past weekend (wedding photos to come soon)- I've been waiting months to show off some of these frames. Taken at nearby Wallace Farms, this country girl made herself at home with a cane-pole and bare feet. She and her mother were up for anything and the results speak clearly for themselves. I first met Deryn and Ashley when I photographed their engagement and wedding portraits just over a year ago. Now I am pleased to introduce to you the happy couple and their newest addition, Decota Vance Garner. This baby was an absolute gem to work with. Full of smiles and so attentive to the camera - not to mention how cute he is. (To be expected, I'm sure, when mommy and daddy are so gorgeous themselves.) Though we shot in the middle of the day and the heat was excrutiating, the family were real troopers and I think have been awarded with some beautiful shots. Thanks to this gorgeous trio for letting me have the pleasure of working with them again - I can't wait to watch their little family grow and wish them all the best!

Sheena & Matt Are Engaged - Finally!

I never thought the day would come for these two who've been dating for a number of years, and as their former youth pastor's wife I use to tease Sheena and Matt all the time that she/he needed to make the other propose. It was all done in good time however when he finally popped the question to Ms. Hamilton and she said yes. I am so honored that I got to photograph this gorgeous couple for such an important moment in their lives. Sheena and Matt are great people who have a lifetime full of happiness ahead of them. Because the weather wouldn't cooperate, the shoot had to be pushed back and adjusted several times before we were finally able to nail down time to make it happen - and still, the rain ended up coming at the end of their time with me. With incredible attitudes the two not only embraced the downpour but, one of the longest snakes we've ever seen (thank God we weren't struck!) not to mention horrible heat and humidity. Incredible portraits were made as a result however, and I can't wait to work with Sheena on her Bridals. Congratulations to a beautiful couple. I look forward to your big day.

Sophia Estes 2 Year Portraits

I can't get over how grown-up this little girl is and how cool it is to me that I've had the honor of watching her get here. (This is the 3rd shoot I have done with her in the past two years of my business.) I've always loved Sophia's expressive face but it's all the more charming now that it is framed by so much red hair! This photoshoot was done shortly after a severe thunderstorm had passed through the area and as such, the air was thick and muggy and the heat could have rivaled any steamroom around. Sophia wasn't deterred a bit though. She posed for me and my camera, crossing her arms and monkey'ing around. And how hard it is to look away from those dark eyes- they're almost onyx in color and pull you straight in. This baby is truly unique and I always enjoy getting to spend time with her and her sweet family. Happy birthday Sophia and many more to come!

Mr. & Mrs. Jesse Swilley

Megan and Jesse Swilley were married July 11th in New Hebron, MS. The wedding was supposed to take place this time last year but due to the tragic loss of Megan's brother the event was postponed. Both bitter and sweet, this day dawned with sunshine and clouds and even an occasional shower. Megan was reminded however, that rain on your wedding day is good luck and the sun was back out in full in no time. The ceremony was completely packed with guests lining the walls to watch this special union. Many wiped away tears as Megan and her parents lit a candle in honor of her brother Jonathan, who's picture was carried down the aisle by the bridesmaid he was to have walked with. Laughter soon gave way though as the ministers recounted stories of both Jesse and Megan's childhood and then again as the little Bible boy rolled about the stage with his John Deere tractor toys (gifts presented to him for making it all the way down the aisle). My favorite part of the day however, was the exit song. Rick Springfield's "Jesse's Girl" came blaring out of the speakers as the wedding party left the building. How cute is that?! It was a great day for a great couple and I wish them a lifetime full of happiness and success. Congrats Mr. & Mrs. Swilley!

The Gaddy Family

This past week I was blessed to be able to accompany my husband to Roxbury, PA for a youth camp he was preaching for the week. We were so excited to learn that our plane was going to stop in Baltimore, MD where our good friends Todd & Brenda Gaddy along with their girls Ally and McKayla live. The city is beautiful! I got to visit Charm City Cakes, (home of THE Ace of Cakes, Duff Goldman) and see a lot of places that my last visit to their city didn't allow. The sights were fabulous. I also got a chance to photograph these wonderful people on their trek up to hear Mitch as he was speaking one morning before his session started. This family are truly kindred spirits of mine and Mitch's - we love spending time with them and I wish them all the best in their city of Towson as they endeavor to begin a church there. I know they're gonna be a tremendous success!

I've known Megan for a few years now and was honored to receive the call asking me to be her wedding photographer. Special Delivery Due in 2 Weeks!

Mary Beth Price emailed me about 7 months ago asking if I would be available to take some photos of her belly once it developed a little more. After a couple of failed attempts to make it happen, we finally got a time and date together and nailed the shoot down. Just two weeks shy of her delivery date, Mary Beth and her husband Justin made the trip to Columbia to have me capture some photographs of their firstborn before he actually arrived. Paxton is what they plan to call him and this baby is certainly already making a statement on the world. Or at least on his little mama! She is so tiny and then boom!-there's a bump. I can't wait to meet the little guy. If he's got the looks and demeanor of his beautiful and sweet parents I know he's gonna wrap some girls up tight around his finger and I look forward to being one of the first of them. Celeste & Her "Triplets"

Celeste Brown is a beautiful mom with three very unique looking kids. I met this incredible lady for the first time when in Texas last week. We got off to a very late start due to the unavoidable traffic in San Antonio, but ended up with incredible light for the shoot. Cade, the oldest of the three is very independent, very much the loner and is very into bugs and crawly things. I love his red hair and deep blue eyes. Gage whom Celeste calls her "little George Clooney" is in fact one beautiful little boy. The artist of the three, Gage stood next to me in many of his sister's shots calling out direction for each of her frames. And last, but not of all least, is Lauren. This girl is 100% priss. She wanted to be a "supermodel" in every shot and most of the photos captured of her shows her making the most adorable poses. If she can't be a supermodel, Lauren told me she would love to be a ballerina. This girl rocked her some cowgirl boots and bathing suits and had the sweetest laugh. Needless to say, this group was a handful but their energy and personalities came through perfectly in each and every shot. I loved their photos and commend Celeste for handling what she herself compared to triplets as these babies are 4,5&6 years old respectively. Though Celeste is a lawyer in San Antonio, I've got no doubt that any courtroom presents a harder job than mom to these three and she's definately seems to be holding her own. Thank you all for allowing me to be a part of such a singular challenge. I look forward to working with you fabulous 4 again soon!

Lowe Family Photo-Op

Devon and Sheila Lowe are some of the sweetest people I've ever met. I absolutely love their spirit and so, it was a little disconcerting when at the end of a shoot on a local property, a woman pulled up and asked us to get off the land. Though I did tell her I looked to ask permission but there was noone around, nor were there No Trespassing signs but in fact, a For Sale sign in the front yard, she still asked that we leave. I was tickled though that we had already got the photos we needed before we had to get out. I think Somone upstairs really looks out for me sometimes. LOL. Anyway, this land had an old, abandoned, enormous house sitting on it that made for the perfect backdrop for this family's photo-shoot. Their two children, Davis & Annabell, are so cute and so full of personality and acted in perfect sport for the pictures as we traveled from the house to a local development called The Quarry to wrap up the photo-op. The result was well worth all the hassle of moving around and I am so glad I got to be the first to capture this family's first ever photo session! Well, that's it - you know what to do from here. Meet My Parents

Jimmie & Robin Hughes are my parents. They began pastoring a home missions church in the small town of Seguin, TX just shy of a year ago and are working hard to make it happen and so I wanted to give them a little "mini-shoot" as a sort of gift and took them about their little downtown to snap some photographs of the greatest gift this town has ever had - them. I love that my mom and dad are still so in love and how they give an ever present example that you can overcome anything and that despite statistics, couples can stay together this day in age. As I sit in a very cool coffee-shop, ChiroJava, here in Seguin and blog this, I can see the potential of this small but very eclectic town and my heart nearly bursts for the people here. I pray for them all and hope when you read this, you too, will offer up a voice to heaven and ask God's blessing upon the endeavors being made here by my parentals to touch the lives of those that live in this place. I love you mom and dad and I am so proud of you both! Keep up the great work and enjoy the photos. I sure did!
